Activities

In order to foster cooperation and the necessary consensus between EU Member States, the EU ITS Platform will facilitate the establishment of a commonly understood state of the art and promoting the actual take-up of EU specifications, guidelines, best practices and/or methodologies.

The EU ITS Platform focuses the cooperation on 5 Activities:

  • Activity 1 – EU ITS Platform Governance and Management
  • Sub-Activity 1.1: Member State Supervision Assembly
  • Sub-Activity 1.2: Project Management
  • Activity 2 – Monitoring and Dissemination (including ITS Deployment Guidelines)
  • Activity 3 – Feasibility study East-West Corridor and first pilot implementation
  • Activity 4 – Harmonization Cluster
  • Sub-Activity 4.1: Determining Quality of European ITS Sevices
  • Sub-Activity 4.2: Facilitating automated driving
  • Sub-Activity 4.3: ITS Deployment Road Map Update
  • Sub-Activity 4.4: Cooperative ITS Services Deployment Support
  • Sub-Activity 4.5: Liaison and harmonization on interfaces for data exchange
  • Sub-Activity 4.6: Monitoring and Harmonisation of Single Point of Access
  • Sub-Activity 4.7: Provision of updates of ITS spatial road data
  • Activity 5 – Evaluation

Activity 1: Governance and Management

The Governance and Management structure is designed to ensure an efficient and effective management of the planned objectives and to best support the different Activities Working Groups with an adequate structure.

SA 4.4: Cooperative ITS Services Deployment Support

The sub-activity aims at developing and providing deployment guidance to road authorities and operators on Cooperative ITS (C-ITS). It capitalises on the results of preceding C-ITS related activities developing a mechanism for setting up deployment guidance for road operators concerning C-ITS services.

Activity 5 – Evaluation

The overall objective of the EU EIP Evaluation activity is to support national and corridor evaluation approaches in order to present a global picture of the impact of ITS Deployment on the European road network and to demonstrate the benefits of ITS investment / CEF funding to the European citizen.

Activity 2 – Monitoring and Dissemination (including ITS Deployment Guidelines)

EU EIP Activity 2 addresses ITS harmonisation in a variety of ways. First of all, Activity 2 provides an operational helpdesk and user support for harmonised ITS deployment, including an operational ITS Library and a compendium for ITS Deployment Guidelines, all available via the EU EIP website.

SA 4.1: Determining Quality of European ITS Sevices

The scope of this sub-activity is the development of quality requirements and quality assessment practices for all ITS Directive priority services involving the road authorities and operators in a major role, building up on results from EIP and EIP+, widening the scope to other priority services than for priority actions b) and c).

SA 4.2: Facilitating automated driving

About SA 4.2

With the current growth and investment in automated driving it is important that road authorities and operators are participating and informed. The scope of this activity is to prepare road authorities and operators to make decisions on facilitating automated driving and automating their own core business.

SA 4.3: ITS Deployment Road Map Update

In 2012 the EasyWay project developed an ITS Deployment Roadmap presenting European road operators views and expectations on ITS deployment. In 2015 the EIP project reviewed the status of ITS deployment in Europe and concluded with an update of the year 2012 Roadmap. This sub-activity builds further on these results.

Background

Europe needs a new growth strategy that transforms the Union into a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy. Digitalization has potential to contribute in a significant way to objectives of common European interest including a smarter and sustainable mobility. European and national authorities encourage the development of an integrated transport system and a better use of the existing infrastructures, thus increasing the efficiency of the TEN-T road network and relevant traffic corridors. Interoperability must be discussed among Member States and Stakeholders, designed, tested and finally deployed on the basis of the evolution of technology, standards, specifications and open interfaces. Intelligent transport systems as well as uniform technical standards and open interfaces are the key tools to achieve this.

EU EIP

The European ITS Platform (EU EIP) aims to speed up and facilitate this process at pan-European level. The European ITS Platform brings together the key European players who cooperate to establish an open "forum“ and provides a joint contribution to future strategy. The Platform also contributes to the policy recommendations for the improved development and deployment of ITS services along European Road Corridors. Road authorities and road operators are working together towards a smarter and more efficient mobility, a goal which will be achieved through large-scale technology deployments.

The project is co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility of the European Union.
